Drill Baby Drill

This is a repost. Two years ago, Sarah Palin was the hottest name in show business/politics. Today, her star has only dimmed a bit. PG saw a performance by the mama grizzly, and was duly impressed with her star power. The fact that the candidate Mrs. Palin endorsed lost, to a crook, is not a problem.

During the honeymoon, an actress portrayed Mrs. Palin as saying that ” I can see Russia from my back porch”. This is the basis for the post below. Before we go there, the question arises, did Sarah Palin ever say she could see Russia from her back porch? Even at a slacker blog, fairness is good form.

The next step is Google. When you type in “Did Sarah Palin…”, some answers come up. They are “get breast implants, die, go to college, ban books”. ( When PG saw her speak, they did look real.) When you add “say”, the answers are “drill baby drill, she could see Russia, refudiate, and I can see Russia”. Perhaps Levi is the one to ask about “drill baby drill”.

When you click on “did sarah palin say she could see russia”, you have the option of 273k results. While no mention of her back porch came up on the first google page, there is a link to an interview Mrs. Palin gave the LA Times. She says
“They’re our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska — from an island in Alaska,”
There is an island called Little Diomede in the Bering Sea. A Russian island called Big Diomede is a few miles away. Little Diomede has less than 150 residents. No Alaska Governor ( or ex Governor) has ever visited. Many of the residents do not have television, and do not know who Sarah Palin is.

So Sarah Palin ( as played by Tina Fey) can see Russia from her back porch. The closeness of Alaska and Siberia is well known. When PG started to look for information, he began with the Aleutian Islands. They string along for hundreds of miles, and cause a dent in the International Date Line. As for which is the last one, and when does Alaska turns into Russia, those are good questions.

So, another search angle was required. The Alaskan government supplied this:
Alaska and Russia are less than 3 miles apart at their closest point in the Bering Strait where two islands, Russia’s Big Diomede Island and Alaska’s Little Diomede Island, are located. In winter it is possible to walk across the frozen Bering Strait border between these two islands. At its closest, the American mainland and the Russian mainland are 55 miles apart where Alaska’s Seward Peninsula and Russia’s Chukotka Peninsula reach out to each other.
Alaska is a big place. It has ten times the land mass of Georgia, with less population than Gwinnett County. There is a town on Little Diomede Island called Diomede. It checks in at 65°N 168°W. ( For our purposes today, we are going to ignore minutes and seconds) The town of Wasilla is the home of Sarah Palin. It can be found at 61°N 149°W . In other words, Diomede is four degrees north of Wasilla, and Nineteen degrees west.

Lets put this in local terms. Atlanta is 33°N 84°W . According to the atlas, 37°N 103°W is the point where New Mexico, Colorado, and Oklahoma come together. PG cannot see that from his back porch.

Sarah Palin can’t see the truth from her back yard, no less from anywhere in Alaska. If she were smart, she’d go back to Wasilla and sink back into obscurity, where she belongs.

I thought Sarah Palin was going to be different, come down here and talk to women about womens issues and inner city issues of which she really knows little , but I was impressed with the fact she took on the CBC (veco oil what they wear on the back of thier maroon hats as thier logo means crooked bastards club) And forced them to pay the alaskan people for all of the oil and copious amounts of money they were making to give the people a share thou the share was much too low for the trillions they were taking out of there, anyway I thought she would talk to me, she did not, I am neither joe six pack, in fact 1/2 of this towns in america should be in AA.. nor am I a hockey mom.. So sloagans and hate are not a governing method..It got to where she was a complete embarrassment and I had to turn the TV off when she would come on with her screechy voice like fingernails on blackboard..and the same party line, I wondered , why do republicans have to keep changing thier name and coming up with a new schhtick.. first they are republicans, then conservatives, then religious right, now tea party, they keep jumping off a sinking ship on to another…Sarah Palin said it best herself and I quote, The whole worlds economy nearly collapsed under george w bush, so why would the american people vote for me? when asked why she lost the election to Ophra winfrey.. Worse yet , now there is another ding dong wanna be sarah palin, I dont think its that they care if they win politics maybe they do like a power struggle, but I think they come up with a schtick just to make money, In this case how dumb can you possibly be and still get people to vote for you.. Its just plain embarrassing

So since you’re obviously ready to cast a vote based on personality, and you obviously have a personality in mind…what would this be like, I wonder?

In truth, this Palin fan has become bone-weary of the Cult Of Personality. I don’t like hearing other Palin supporters say things like “There’s Just Something About Her!” — sounds to me like a repeat of the Obamamania from two years ago, now melted-down into a puddle of purest failure. And I look forward to hearing her warbling voice as much as Congressman John Dingell’s insomnia-curing monotone.

I’m just looking at the policies. It’s clear by now Palin is, if not the polar opposite of Obama, something very close to that. And Obama is a reverse-compass charting where we do NOT want to go. His “smartest guys in the room” haven’t a clue. Their answer to an oil spill is a drilling moratorium. Their answer to crippling debt is to spend more money. I think if we put them in charge, unemployment would increase by three points or more, and stay right up there…oh, wait, now it’s two years later and that is precisely what has happened.

“We’d be better off with her in charge” does not amount to a rousing pro-Palin slogan. More like an anti-Obama one. And, at this point, the evidence seems to support that such a summary of current events, would be correct.

It’s an exercise in formulating an opinion (Palin’s a dimbulb) with the appearance that you’re resting it on established facts, when you really aren’t because the opinion can’t be reasonably driven by genuine fact too often. Tina Fey did it on purpose, and she isn’t alone. We seem to be undergoing a subtle re-definition of the word “comedy.”

There is a slide show going around showing that conservative women are hot and liberal women are pug-ugly. It’s filled with REAL photographs of gorgeous conservative women and fugly liberal women. And then toward the end there’s one — ONE! — photoshop job of Rosie O’Donnell’s face on the body of an overfed captured terrorist. This has drawn much criticism, particularly from my fine self. If right-wing women are really that much better looking, there’s no need to pad the evidence is there?

By the same token, Palin’s fictitious quote falls into the same category as Rosie’s photograph. It is precisely the same sin.

By the way, there seems to be a rather rigid rule in place against pointing this out. You get congratulations from me for your sense of fair play…your buddy Ed Darrell could learn some lessons from you…but you should watch your back now.

Truth be known, this post started to come together when I did the google search. I had no idea that there was speculation about a Palin boob job.
After seeing Mrs. Palin perform, I do have some respect for her as an entertainer. I am not quite as sure about her ability to govern. Still, I am reluctant to label her a dummy. If nothing else, she knows how to read a script.
She is famous for being herself. She is not famous for being the daughter or husband of a famous man.

I see more than Russia from back PORCH. I see a lost society of beginning SPIRIT. LOss of Family whether it be of BLOOD or the Heart. Yes Russia is in the back of the PORCH of MY LIFE. The COLD REALITY of our own self-absorbtion and self-centeredness. That all in the we call our Universe is about “SELF”.

And if you moderate these statments then it is ALL ABOUT SELF.
