Candidate Middle Names

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was recently featured at chamblee54. There are twenty three democrats who want to replace Donald John Trump. What are the middle names of these seventeen men, and six women? Are there any descriptive initials, other than Bernard Sanders? Are any middle names as appropriate as Donald John Trump?

The name game is different for women. Some marry, and take the last name of their spouse. The six women in the race take different approaches. The most traditional is the former Kirsten Elizabeth Rutnik, married to Jonathan Gillibrand.

Four of the lady candidates are married, but do not use the name of their current husband. Three are Tulsi Gabbard (Abraham Williams), Kamala Devi Harris (Douglas Emhoff), and Amy Jean Klobuchar (John Bessler). The former Elizabeth Ann Herring married, and divorced, Jim Warren. She kept the Warren name after she married Bruce H. Mann.

Marianne Deborah Williamson is the least conventional lady in the race. Williamson was briefly married. In 1990, she gave birth to a daughter,” “India Emma. … Williamson steadfastly refuses to reveal the identity of the father, leaving a blank space in her political narrative that she understands may cause controversy.”

Most of the early presidents did not have middle names. The custom of having three names did not become popular until after the War Between the States. Four of the current candidates … Julián Castro, Tulsi Gabbard, Bernard Sanders, and Andrew Yang … do not have middle names. Mr. Sanders has the most honest initials.

Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg stands alone with two middle names. The only President to have two middle names recently went to the Kennebunkport in the sky. Most of the other candidates have boring middle names. Michael Farrand Bennet, Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., Cory Anthony Booker, John Kevin Delaney, Maurice Robert “Mike” Gravel, John Wright Hickenlooper Jr., Jay Robert Inslee, Wayne Martin Messam, Seth Wilbur Moulton, Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, Timothy John Ryan, Eric Michael Swalwell Jr., William Floyd Weld.

Ballotpedia and wikipedia were used to research this feature. Pictures are from The Library of Congress. Jack Delano took the pictures, in Maine, in October 1940.
